Beyond 250k Miles: Ford Super Duty Setting New Standards

2023 Ford Super Duty

Ford models, such as the Expedition and Super Duty, have gained recognition in recent years for their remarkable durability, with some even surpassing the impressive one-million-mile mark. In particular, the Ford F-350 Super Duty stood out as one of the vehicles most likely to reach the 250,000-mile milestone, according to iSeeCars. And now, the Ford F-250 Super Duty has joined its counterpart on this esteemed list.

While the F-350 Super Duty claimed the top spot in iSeeCars‘ annual rankings for vehicles with the highest likelihood of reaching 250,000 miles, the Ford F-250 Super Duty secured the fifth position, boasting a 43.6 percent chance of achieving this notable feat. This probability is an impressive 3.7 times higher than the average vehicle, which only has an 11.8 percent chance of reaching a quarter-million miles. Notably, out of the top 23 vehicles on the list, almost half of them (10) were pickup trucks.

iSeeCars.com Executive Analyst Karl Brauer highlighted the prevalence of trucks, including heavy-duty ones, on the list, explaining that these vehicles are frequently purchased by businesses as reliable workhorses that contribute significantly to a company’s success.

To compile the list, iSeeCars analyzed data from over 260 million vehicle sales between 2012 and 2022, evaluating the likelihood of each model reaching 250,000 miles. The average mileage of vehicles at different ages was calculated, and a specialized model based on these figures was developed to estimate the probability of a vehicle surviving to various mileage thresholds. Ultimately, this study revealed that the average lifespan of vehicles is increasing over time.

Brauer emphasized the growing longevity of vehicles, noting that more than 20 cars now have a 20 percent or higher chance of reaching a quarter million miles. Traditionally, the maximum usable lifespan for cars was considered to be around 100,000 miles. However, over the past three decades, the number of cars exceeding 200,000 miles has steadily risen. For the tenth Longest-Lasting Cars Study, iSeeCars expanded its analysis to predict which vehicles have the greatest likelihood of surpassing 250,000 miles or more.
