2023 Ford Super Duty: Redesigned Workhorse for Power & Comfort

2023 Ford Super Duty

Considering a new Ford Super Duty truck? The 2023 models have arrived and are an excellent choice for those seeking a reliable diesel truck. These high-end workhorses have undergone a complete redesign, both inside and out, to deliver capable and comfortable trucks.

Jim Farley, Ford President and CEO, says, “From the F-250 pickup to the F-600 utility truck, Super Duty has become the trusted badge for America’s hardest-working men and women to tackle the toughest jobs. Our Super Duty customers are builders, the backbone of our communities and our economy. We’ve invested all our expertise and ingenuity into creating their dream truck – smarter, more powerful, and packed with clever features and technology.”

But the Super Duty isn’t just the go-to choice for builders. Ford highlights its significant economic role as the preferred truck for essential industries. With over 50 percent market share in utility, mining, construction, and emergency response vehicles, the Super Duty dominates these sectors, according to S&P Global Mobility.

Ted Cannis, CEO of Ford Pro, says, “Super Duty is a name that is trusted to get the job done, and our customers have made it the most popular commercial truck in America, without a doubt. The all-new Super Duty is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a 5G modem connected to a powerful ecosystem of productivity-enhancing software and services, allowing it to seamlessly transition from workhorse to the office of the future.”

Ford Super Duty: The Epitome of a Reliable Workhorse

The 2023 Super Duty stands out for its impressive power and capability. It boasts the widest range of engines in its class, with a standard 6.8-liter V8 gas engine and an optional 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine, featuring a unique turbo, upgraded exhaust manifolds, and tuning targeted at delivering best-in-class horsepower and torque.

Each Super Duty model comes equipped with a Ford-designed 10-speed TorqShift automatic transmission. Furthermore, every chassis cab model includes a standard power take-off connection to operate additional equipment such as boom lifts and plows. Four-wheel drive is now standard on XLT models and higher.

For those requiring advanced capabilities, the new Ford Pro Upfit Integration System (UIS) revolutionizes the integration of on-body equipment, like utility cranes or plows. This digital solution offers aftermarket equipment manufacturers enhanced access to the Super Duty’s electrical system and signals, enabling seamless integration of their hardware with the truck’s digital displays. The cloud-based software connects to the UIS, allowing equipment makers to add digital buttons for drivers to control their equipment from within the truck. The system also supports high levels of customization and safety interlocks, such as preventing the transmission from shifting into drive while a boom lift is raised.

The Super Duty now offers Pro Power Onboard, providing more exportable power than any other heavy-duty pickup or chassis cab. With 2.0 kilowatts of output, it can power a job site or tailgate party. Power outlets can be accessed inside the truck and cargo box or mounted on chassis cabs using a special outlet installation kit.

Introducing the Ultimate Towing Machine: The New Ford Super Duty

A Ford press release reveals that about 96 percent of heavy-duty pickup owners use their trucks for towing. The Super Duty, with its targeted best-in-class payload and towing capacity for every trailer type, ensures customers can tow confidently.

The 2023 Super Duty introduces new available driver-assist technologies to simplify and enhance the towing experience. The Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch estimates cargo weight in real-time and offers guidance on trailer tongue weight distribution via the center touchscreen, FordPass app, or even the taillamps.

A 360-degree trailer camera system provides a bird’s-eye view of the trailer, making maneuvering in tight spaces easier and virtually eliminating blind spots. The 2023 Super Duty also features a Blind Spot Information System for fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers, detecting vehicles next to the trailer and indicating their presence in the side-view mirrors.

The 2023 Super Duty introduces an industry-first available Tailgate Down Camera and Tailgate Down Reverse Sensing System, which includes a new camera and reverse sensors at the top of the tailgate. This feature offers visual and audible alerts when the tailgate is down, simplifying backing up to a dock or hitching a gooseneck or fifth-wheel trailer. The Pro Trailer Hitch Assist automatically backs the truck up and aligns the conventional hitch ball with the trailer receiver.

The Super Duty now features Trailer Navigation, plotting routes that accommodate the trailer’s dimensions and weight to avoid potential issues with low bridges and tight turns.

Andrew Kernahan, Ford Super Duty chief engineer, says, “Our goal was to leave drivers with zero blind spots, even when towing the longest trailers. Camera views provide every angle, from simulating a drone to ensuring customers can see behind the truck even when the tailgate is down. Hitching and towing have never been easier.”

Embracing the Digital Age: The 2023 Ford Super Duty

The 2023 Ford Super Duty is the first pickup in the US to feature embedded 5G capability. Leveraging AT&T’s high-performance 5G network, the Super Duty offers faster navigation, mapping, and music downloads with higher quality than 4G. The Qualcomm Technologies’ 5G modem also provides a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices, keeping workers and families connected on the go while supporting Ford Power-Up software updates during drives to continually improve the truck over time.

The all-new Super Duty maximizes connectivity with Ford Pro, a dedicated business division focused on enhancing uptime, boosting productivity, and reducing costs for commercial customers through a suite of connected vehicles, software, services, and financing.

Super Duty owners, from small to large businesses, can take advantage of software tools such as Ford Pro Fleet Management Software and Ford Pro Telematics. These tools help identify maintenance needs, vehicle locations, driver behaviors, wasted idle time, and more. Super Duty customers also gain access to Ford’s 650+ Commercial Vehicle Centers, a network of 300+ upfitters, an expanding fleet of 700+ Mobile Service Vans, and Ford Pro FinSimple, which streamlines vehicle leasing and purchasing for efficiency and ease.

Ford Super Duty: Enhanced Toughness and Durability

The all-new exterior of the 2023 Ford Super Duty features seven redesigned grilles, engineered to optimize cooling performance during heavy loads. The signature “C-clamp” lighting creates a broad, grounded look at the front, with LED headlamps available on all trim levels. Functional long side vents reduce under-hood air pressure for improved aerodynamics.

For customers seeking a unique statement, the new STX, Sport, and Black Appearance Packages offer various trim, wheel, and paint combinations. The XL Off-Road Package, available on F-250 or F-350 4×4 single rear wheel models, adds 33-inch rugged tires, a raised air dam, water-fording axle vent tubes, skid plates, and an electronic locking rear differential.

The Tremor Off-Road Package features a front-end lift, specially tuned suspension, a Dana front axle with a limited-slip differential and axle vent tubes, 35-inch Goodyear tires, unique 18-inch wheels, Trail Control, selectable drive modes including a rock-crawl mode, and the new Trail Turn Assist.

Comfort is a priority in the 2023 Super Duty. The XL model comes standard with an 8-inch center display, while higher trims get a 12-inch display. The Super Duty also offers a customizable 12-inch digital instrument cluster, four USB power ports, an available wireless charging pad, a tablet-holding center console slot, and Max Recline Seats for ultimate relaxation during breaks.

To enhance your entertainment experience, the 2023 Super Duty boasts a 640-watt, eight-speaker B&O Sound System or an optional 1,080-watt, 18-speaker B&O Unleashed Sound System by Bang & Olufsen. For hands-free assistance on long trips, Alexa is built-in, providing complimentary connectivity for up to three years.
