The Ford GT continues to provide buyers with something new as Ford rolls out new Heritage Editions of its ultimate sports car, including, most recently, the 2022 Ford GT ā64 Prototype Heritage Edition, which pays tribute to the 1964 Ford GT prototypes that gave birth to every GT that has followed, as well as the 2022 Ford GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition, which honors Alan Mann Racingās Ford GT lightweight experimental prototypes from 1965 and 1966. The automaker teased yet another new model ā the 2022 Ford GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition ā just last month, and now, this special vehicle has been fully revealed.
The 2022 Ford GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition will make its public debut at the upcoming New York International Auto Show alongside the Holman Moody Ford GT40 MK II, chassis No. P/1016, which is the same place that the original Ford GT40 was revealed back in 1964. Itās a fitting tribute considering the fact that this particular car pays homage to the GT40 MK II race car that played a big role in Fordās legendary 1-2-3 sweep at the 1966 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Following the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford tasked Holman Moody and Shelby American to rework the GT40 MK II, and the former obliged by racking up 265 laps in just eight days, using the data they gathered to revise the brakes, suspension, and tire setup as well as testing out an experimental automatic transmission ā all in the name of making it faster. The rewards for those efforts were an iconic motorsports win and this new limited-edition model.
The 2022 Ford GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition is finished in a gold and red livery made famous by the original, along with Oxford White roundels with No. 5 stamped on the doors, hood, and rear wing. Carbon fiber pieces are everywhere on the outside, including the 20-inch wheels, front splitter, side sills, mirrors, engine louvers, and rear diffuser, while a set of black Brembo brakes with silver graphics complete the look.
Inside the cabin, the carbon fiber theme continues with composite door sills, console, and registers, a matte No. 5 roundel on the door panels, Ebony Alcantara-wrapped carbon fiber seats with gold accent stitching, an Ebony leather and Ebony Alcantara-wrapped instrument panel, Ebony Alcantara pillars and headliner, gold appliquƩs on the instrument panel, door register bezels, and seat X-brace, matte carbon fiber registers, door sills, lower A-pillars, and console, an Ebony Alcantara steering wheel with black stitching, and Holman Moody Gold paddle shifters.
Deliveries of the Holman Moody Heritage Edition are set to begin this spring, but as is the case with all Ford GT models, only approved customers will have the opportunity to purchase one.
