The Eagles traveled to Park Hill South after an impressive win over Liberty in the District semifinals and for the second straight week held their opponent to just 2 touchdowns.

Middle linebacker Melvin Laster led the Eagles with 6 tackles and a sack, covering the field in every direction thanks to the strong nose tackle play of Darius Pahmahmie says Liberty North head coach Greg Jones.

“Darius played so well Friday night that Melvin was free running everywhere,” coach Jones told the Courrier Tribune. “Melvin’s been playing at a high level for so long that he’s just a natural at the game with what he sees.”

Dynamic duo Cayden Arzola and Michah Jo Barnett spearheaded the Eagles offense with impressive rushing gains aided in no small part by Liberty North’s domination at the line of scrimmage. Cayden clocked 164 yards and a touchdown while Micah Jo chipped in 84 yards.

This Saturday the Liberty North Eagles head east to St. Louis to face the powerhouse Troy-Buchanan Trojans in the Class 6 State Championship semifinal game.

The Trojans are 10-2 for the season but struggled a bit last week winning their matchup on a last-second touchdown to send them to the semifinal game.

Neither the long drive across Missouri nor the formidable competition that awaits them will intimidate Liberty North says coach Jones. The Eagles are coming to play.

“Control what you can control,” Jones said. “We do not control the fact that we have to travel to St. Louis, but we can control how we handle it.”
