Car people like to eat, so #MyKCFord has been on a journey looking for the best burgers in Kansas City. Our current list consists of 6 places in the Kansas City area we have found that make an incredible burger. Kansas City is full of fantastic burger spots to enjoy America’s favorite meal so we know we’ve missed a few places that definitely need to be added to our list, so please add your favorites to the comments.
Town Topic
Town Topic is one of Kansas City’s most well-known greasy spoons. Their hearty food and delicious burgers have helped them expand to three locations across the city. The original Town Topic has been around for over 75 years when Claude Sparks started selling burgers for five cents apiece. Today, the flavors have evolved but the burgers are still true to form – delicious and homemade with high-quality ingredients.
Smitty’s Garage Burger and Beer
Don’t expect a typical flap-jack-looking burger when you walk into Smitty’s Garage Burger and Beer. They specialize in making your burger meal an unforgettable experience. Their menu options range from Grade-A Angus beef to lighter premium meats, like turkey and all-natural vegan patties. Fries are fresh cut each day and come with a variety of savory and sweet dipping sauces for you to choose from.
Johnny Ray’s Drive-In
If you’re in the mood for a mouth-watering steakburger topped with all the best Fixin’s, head straight to Johnny Ray’s Drive-In and dig in. Be sure to order a homemade milkshake and delicious crispy fries or rings to complete the perfect combo. Johnny Ray’s also delivers a dose of nostalgia, with a 1950’s-style drive-in theatre and from time to time host classic car shows.
Tara’s Cafe & Malt Shop
If you’ve got some time throughout the day and are hungry for a burger at lunch, Tara’s Cafe delivers the goods! Locals know it as the perfect greasy spoon with a mom-and-pop vibe. Their juicy burgers have helped put them on the map and they also offer a variety of other foods and desserts in case your appetite is more ambitious than usual. We recommend their double cheeseburger topped with crispy bacon.
Hayes Hamburgers & Chili
Hayes Hamburgers & Chili has served hungry customers in the Kansas City Northland since October 1955 and hasn’t changed much. This old-school burger joint is as authentic as they come. Hayes’ is a great, hole-in-the-wall, iconic place that serves great burgers as well as a all-day breakfast menu, and a great looking tenderloin.
Tay’s Burger Shack
Tay’s Burger Shack wows their customers with big burgers that pack awesome flavor in every bite. Other flavorful perks include the Sriracha ketchup to add a little spice to your meal. Their friendly staff will always greet you with a smile and make you feel right at home as you enjoy one of the tastiest patties you’ve ever had.
