The Warriors knew coming into Friday night that knocking off the Blue Tigers in Kansas City to advance in the Class 4 football playoffs would be no small feat.
Both teams entered the game with undefeated records, and Lincoln Prep came to play early taking command on the very first drive with an 82-yard downfield blitz for the early lead
The Warriors and Blue Tigers then dug in going touchdown for touchdown throughout the first half.
Late in the 2nd quarter, Smithvilleās all-purpose back Caleb Donnel scored his first of two touchdowns on the night. A fumble on the ensuing point-after play resulted in the holder Andrew Hedgecorth picking up the loose ball and completing a pass to a wide-open Jack Alexander to give the Warriors a 15-14 edge at halftime.
Caleb added another touchdown in the second half and finished the night with over 100 rushing yards. Andrew added a touchdown pass and run to his stats for the evening, but it was Smithvilleās defense, who took over the game in the second half recovering three Lincoln Prep fumbles and keeping the Blue Tigers off the scoreboard for a 29-14 final.
The still undefeated Smithville Warrior take their record across Missouri now to face MICDS (Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School) in St. Louis in the Class 4 State Football Championship Semifinal. MICDS is also undefeated.
