We can always count on Ford Era to give us an in-depth look at some exciting trucks. A couple of months ago, we discussed a 1965 Ford F100 NASCAR cup truck restomod which Ford Era featured in one of the installments of its “What The Truck?” series. Solomon Lunger joins Cody (@fordahlbilt) of Fordahl Bilt Fabrication in one of its more recent episodes to discuss his 1972 F-250 pickup with 7.3 Powerstroke Turbo swap.

The truck we have here rides on a four-inch lift and is currently a work in progress. The owner also explains that he plans to install Vintage Air and Dakota Digital parts soon in the video. Nevertheless, the pièce de résistance of this truck sits under its hood. A 7.3-liter Powerstroke turbo diesel engine propels this 1972 F-250. The powerplant hooks up to a ZF five-speed gearbox which sends power to all four corners.

The custom truck derives its powertrain and gearbox from a 1997 donor vehicle. Lunger shares his thoughts on the build, “It looks like it is meant to be in there like you did such a good job of fitting everything,” said Lunger. He further adds, “This truck is so rad.”

The truck retains its factory 16-inch wheels. However, now 35-inch tires envelop the gorgeous rims. In addition to a Ranger XLT trim package, a license plate that reads “DZLHIBY” is also part of the ensemble. The truck uses a 36-gallon transfer tank, and being a diesel, it delivers excellent fuel economy. Cody claims that he can get between 16 and 18 MPG out of his 7.3-liter Powerstroke Turbo motor. The truck also runs an electric fuel system.

The owner also lists all the modifications that were done to the powertrain. “Its got a; I built a fuel system for it, um, did the intercooler piping. It’s got a billet wheel tuned, uh, by JeliBuilt with Hydra,” explains Cody. He further adds, “I built full four-inch exhaust for it. Um, that’s pretty much it for the motor. It runs pretty good.”
