Many Ford fans are well aware of the story of Centurion Vehicles by now, a Michigan-based conversion company that built some truly cool and sometimes bizarre vehicles ranging from four-door Broncos (before they actually existed) to more conventional haulers, like this 1991 Ford F-350 Centurion SuperCrew dually that’s up for grabs at Bring a Trailer. However, while any sort of Centurion is at least somewhat rare, this could be the nicest one we’ve ever come across.
Much of that can be attributed to the fact that amazingly, this 1991 Ford F-350 Centurion has a mere 7k original miles on the clock. Not much history is included in the auction, but we do know that the selling dealer acquired the giant pickup back in May, changed the oil and cleaned it up, and now, the world is curious to see how much this rare beast will ultimately sell for when the hammer falls.
On the outside, this F-350 is a true relic of the not terribly distant past, coated in Raven Black paint with blue pinstripes and loads of trim, including the lower portions of the body panels. Other highlights include a brushed aluminum tailgate panel, TV antenna, diamond-plated running boards, a cab visor, and diamond plated rails for the bed. The whole thing rolls on a set of big-rig worthy 16-inch Alcoa wheels wrapped with 235/85 Firestone Transforce tires.
Inside the cabin, the driver and occupants ride on total comfort courtesy of high-back captain’s chairs and a rear bench seat stitched in Scarlet Red cloth with striped inserts. However, it’s the Centurion-added goodies that make this cabin unique, which include aircraft reading lights, courtesy lights, overhead grab handles, a radar detector, a CB radio, front floor mats, a four-way switch panel, a trailer brake controller, and oak trim on the consoles, doors, and dashboard.
Power for this rather large truck comes from Ford’s also-large 460 cubic-inch V8, which was originally rated to produce 230 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. It’s a thirsty powerplant for certain, which is probably why this truck also has an auxiliary 40-gallon fuel tank in the front to go with the rear-mounted 30-gallon unit.
Accompanied by a host of original documentation, we would like to imagine that this 1991 Ford F-350 Centurion conversion will sell for big bucks at auction, but that isn’t a guarantee given its obscurity. Regardless, that also means that someone in the know could get a fantastic deal on a rare and amazingly well-kept truck.
