Fire trucks come in all shapes and sizes, but most of the time, people picture giant rigs with huge ladders that take multiple operators to navigate through city streets. However, there are many smaller, nimbler fire trucks based on production models that weāre more familiar with, and have been for decades. That now includes this very cool Ranger Raptor, which belongs to the Helsinki City Rescue Department in Finland.
Globally, the Ford Ranger is already a popular vehicle for traversing rugged and rural terrain, so itās no surprise that the fire department would want to take things a bit further and opt for the ultimate off-road version of the mid-size pickup.
This particular conversion was completed by Arctic Trucks, a company that made a name for itself building crazy Icelandic versions of the Ford F-150 with massive 44-inch tires. The result is this highly-capable fire rescue vehicle that will be the work ride of the departmentās first aid chief.
Arctic Trucks leaned on a host of other aftermarket outfitters to equip this Ranger Raptor for duty and is a true one-off built. The company equipped this pickup with a big brush guard up front to protect its vital bits against obstacles, as well as a bed cap to house all of the first aid supplies one might need in the case of an emergency.
This mobile field hospital doesnāt need any other sort of performance and/or suspension mods, as the stock Ranger Raptor is already pretty darn capable right out of the box. Equipped with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine producing 210 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, it also has the juice needed to arrive on the scene fairly quickly.
āIn this project, we truly could utilize the expertise of our team and partners widely, which made it professionally very interesting and special,ā said Ville Viikari, Managing Director, Arctic Trucks Finland. āIt was wonderful to get the opportunity to be part of developing and building this unique vehicle. And now it is ready to save lives in the Helsinki area.ā
