The Ford Ranger has earned its fair share of accolades since rejoining The Blue Oval’s North American lineup for the 2019 model year, including, most recently, being named one of the most reliable used pickup trucks on the market by Consumer Reports. Now, the Ford Ranger can add yet another trophy to its proverbial case, as the mid-size model has also earned Vincentric’s 2022 Best CPO Value award in that same segment.
This is the second year in a row that the Ranger has been awarded Vincentric’s certified pre-owned value award in the mid-size pickup segment, which it earned by presenting the lowest maintenance, fuel, operating, and total ownership costs in its class. The Ranger finished with five-year ownership costs that are 8.2 percent lower than expected.
The Ranger joins a few other Blue Oval products recently recognized by Vincentric in its annual certified pre-owned awards, including the Ford Fusion Energi, which topped the EV/PHEV class, Ford’s entire truck lineup, the Ford Flex, which took top honors in the large SUV segment, the Ford F-150, which won an award in the light-duty pickup segment, and the Ford Transit Connect, which topped all rival vans in its segment.
Vincentric measures value by first looking at ownership costs, which it calculates by combining depreciation, insurance, repairs, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, finance, fuel, taxes, state fees, and opportunity costs. A vehicle’s expected cost of ownership is based on statistical models that correlate the price of a vehicle with the cost of ownership. Any vehicle that falls below the average value line is a better value than a vehicle that falls above the average value line. Based on that information, vehicles are assigned a value score of 1-5, with 5 representing the best value.
