There weren’t many changes to the Ford Ranger for the 2022 model year, just a few minor alterations to set it apart from previous iterations. While they weren’t groundbreaking, there were some new exterior colors added to the lineup, including Avalanche and Hot Pepper Red. The unique Splash package also premiered and serves as a throwback to the style of the 1990s, adding loud and vibrant graphics to the pickup. That being said, the 2023 Ford Ranger is on its way, and Gary Crossley Ford recently learned when the order banks for the new model year will open.
According to sources familiar with the matter, order banks for the 2023 Ford Ranger will open on July 18th, 2022 while production of the 2023 Ranger is expected to kick off on October 10th, 2022 at Ford’s Michigan Assembly plant. Of course, these dates are not set in stone and are subject to change.
The 2023 model year marks the final for the Ford Ranger’s current generation, as the next-generation model on the horizon, having already debuted in global markets. Additionally, the next-gen Ranger will kick off a planned eight-year production run before being retired, indicating that the pickup will stick around for a while. Production of this model will follow right on the heels of production for the 2023 model year, and will kick off in May 2023. The 2023 Ford Ranger is expected retain the Ford 2.3L I4 EcoBoost as the base powerplant, capable of 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque in its current form, and the lone engine option available in the U.S. market.
Among other things, the next gen pickup will likely no longer have a traditional owner’s manual included, ditching the paper copy for a digitalized version. Instead of flipping open a book, all information contained within can be accessed by the SYNC 4A touchscreen stationed in the center stack on international models. The North American market will also get the Ranger Raptor too, a first for the region, as confirmed by Ford CEO Jim Farley.
