A number of BFord vehicles have fared quite well in some recent comparison tests, with theĀ Ford Bronco SportĀ beating outĀ the Toyota RAV4 and Jeep Wrangler, theĀ Ford BroncoĀ also taking down the Wrangler, theĀ Ford MaverickĀ topping the Hyundai Santa Cruz, theĀ Ford F-150Ā beatingĀ the Toyota Tundra, and theĀ Ford F-150 LightningĀ scoringĀ a close win over the Rivian R1T. Now, we can add the 2022Ā Ford RangerĀ to that list as well, asĀ Consumer ReportsĀ recently declared it a superior option to the Toyota Tacoma.
The all-new, next-generation Ford Ranger recently launched in select global markets, but the current-gen model is still racking up its fair share of accolades, including ranking as the top mid-size pickup in J.D. PowerāsĀ 2022 Initial Quality Study (IQS)Ā and winning a Kelley Blue BookĀ Five-Year Cost to Own AwardĀ andĀ Top 10 Best Resale Value Award. Now, it has also beaten out one of its chief rivals for a variety of reasons.
The first is capability, asĀ Consumer ReportsĀ notes that the 2022 Ford Ranger can out haul and out tow the Tacoma, offers quicker acceleration, and returns superior fuel economy to boot. It also ranks above average in terms ofĀ Consumer Reportsā reliability ratings and owner satisfaction, offers a better driving position and visibility, superior ride quality, is quieter, and features more supportive seats when compared to the Tacoma.
āThe Ranger performs better than the Tacoma in most of our evaluations,āĀ Consumer ReportsĀ concludes. āIt has superior handling capabilities, is quieter and easier to live with, and has stronger towing and cargo capabilities. With its above-average reliability and points awarded from the standard FCW and AEB, the Ranger has an overall score thatās high enough to allow us to recommend it.ā
