The Ford Maverick has beenĀ a smash hit in the salesroomĀ thus far. The Maverick is hugely popular with folks that like to modify their vehicles, and weāve already seen a variety ofĀ liftedĀ andĀ loweredĀ examples ripe with customization. However, one thing we havenāt seen, until now, is one of these trucks built for speed, but thatās precisely whatĀ Vorshlag MotorsportsĀ is doing with this Ford Maverick XL.
This particular Ford Maverick XL was purchased to serve as a development mule for the company, and as such, itās a bare-bones model, albeit one equipped with Fordās 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 and all-wheel-drive for performanceās sake. The little truck tips the scales at just under 3,600 pounds, which isnāt terrible, but from here, thereās much more to do. Vorshlag is currently toying around with things like camber plates, spring rates, and coilovers to make it more adept at the track.
VorschlagāsĀ Terry FairĀ explained toĀ The DriveĀ that no off-the-shelf rear shock mounts or struts would work on the Maverick, so theyāve resorted to making their own in house. However, they are able to use a set of Motion Control Suspension TT1 adjustable coilovers, which should drop the pickup by at least two inches with more possible via other modifications.
Of course, suspension isnāt the only thing Fair is working on ā his team is also toying around with the Maverickās EcoBoost powerplant to extract more power from it. Five Star Tuning provided a new calibration for the pickup, which was good enough to help it lay down 267 horsepower and 373 pound-feet of torque on the dyno. However, Fair notes that this version of the turbocharged 2.0-liter powerplant is quite a bit different than the one offered in the Focus ST, so weāll have to wait for companies to churn our some new performance parts for it.
Regardless, we have no doubt that will happen, thanks to folks like Fair and his company, which work diligently to make our vehicles better than they are when they come from the manufacturer.
