The Ford F-150 has remained at the top of the sales charts for decades, and the pandemic and resulting supply chain shortages haven’t dampened consumers’ enthusiasm toward the pickup, either. This past year, the Ford F-150 remained one of America’s most purchased used vehicles, while used F-150 financing requests rose considerably in 2021 over 2020. By the end of the year, the F-150 was the most financed vehicle in the U.S., an unsurprising result considering the fact that there are around 16 million Ford F-Series pickups on the road today. As it turns out, the Ford F-150 was also the most popular used vehicle of 2021, according to the latest iSeeCars data.
“The Ford F-150 has been America’s undisputed best-selling new vehicle for over 40 years, and its popularity among new cars makes it popular in the used car market as well,” said iSeeCars Executive Analyst, Karl Brauer. “The limited inventory of new pickup trucks led many consumers to purchase them used, and despite pickup trucks being among the top sellers, demand still exceeded supply, leading to dramatic increases in used car prices.”
The F-150 topped last year’s most popular used vehicle list by accounting for 3.6 percent of total sales, which totaled 17.4 million vehicles last year, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado at 2.6 percent, the Ram 1500 at 2.4 percent, the Honda Civic at 2 percent, and the Nissan Rogue representing 1.9 percent of sales.
Ford’s F-150 was also the top choice in a number of geographical areas in the U.S., ranking as the best-selling used vehicle in 30 out of 50 metro areas and a whopping 38 states, while the Ram 1500 came in second with six states and the Silverado finished third with four states.
