When the 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler was revealed this past spring, Ford noted that it would be “attractively priced,” though it didn’t tell us how exactly attractively priced it would be at that time. Now, however, the wait is over, Ford has released how much the Rattler package will cost, on top of the XL on which it’s based, at least – $1,495 – making it a real bargain considering what you get for that outlay of cash.
On the outside, that includes 18-inch dark-painted aluminum wheels wrapped with LT265/70R BSW all-terrain tires, a Rattler decal on the bed sides, fog lamps, privacy glass, dual exhaust with black tips, and an electronic rear-window defroster. Inside the cabin, the rugged pickup features a special black interior with bronze accents and stitching on the seats, plus a set of floor liners.
If all of that isn’t enough, the Rattler also comes with some pretty enticing upgrades that enhance its capability and durability, including specially-tuned shocks, Hill Descent Control and Rock Crawl Mode, and a trio of skid plates covering the front differential, transfer case, and fuel tank. It also gets different gearing based on what engine buyers choose – 3.31 gears for the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and 5.0-liter Coyote V8, 3.55 gears for the 2.7L EcoBoost V6, and 3.73 gears for the 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid.
The 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler is based on the entry-level XL, but it also builds upon the FX4 Off-Road Package, giving us an option that slots in beneath the Tremor in the F-150 lineup. It does come with a few requirements – including four-wheel-drive, a 145-inch wheelbase, and it must be paired with either the Trailer Tow Package or Class VI Hitch Package. Additionally, there are some things that can’t be paired with the Rattler – namely, the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 Payload Package, 3.3-liter V6, STX Appearance Package, STX Black Appearance Package, XL Chrome Appearance Package, MyKey, Heavy-Duty Payload Package, and Snow Plow Prep Package.
Ford hasn’t released pricing for the 2023 F-150 yet, but we do know that it is eliminating the entry-level equipment group for the XL, which will make it better equipped but also roughly $2,000 pricier. Thus, using 2022 pricing, we can expect the Rattler to cost at least $47k with the cheapest engine choice, the 2.7L EcoBoost. But in the hierarchy of the current F-150 lineup, that’s a true bargain, not to mention significantly cheaper than the Tremor, making the Rattler a solid choice for off-road fans on a budget.
