Trail Turn Assist is included in the all-new, third-generation 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor, which is a very helpful feature for those off-roading in tight spots.

Ford Motor Company was showing off one of the coolest party tricks present on all 2021 Ford Bronco models – Trail Turn Assist – long before the reborn SUV launched. However, many may not be aware that Trail Turn Assist is also included in the all-new, third-generation 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor, which is a very helpful feature for those off-roading in tight spots that may need to maneuver around turns without much space to spare.

Trail Turn Assist reduces the turning radius of a vehicle like the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor by applying the brake to the inside rear wheel while completing low-speed, high steering-angle maneuvers. The feature is meant for off-roading applications specifically, as using it on pavement can increase tire wear or even cause driveline damage, though noise from the anti-lock brakes is normal on any surface.

Trail Turn Assist can only be used when the Raptor’s four-wheel drive system is in four low (4L) or four high (4H), and cannot be used if the pickup’s rear differential is locked. If the rear differential is locked and then unlocked, the feature may take a second to activate as it confirms that the diff is unlocked for safety purposes.

To active Trail Turn Assist in the 2021 F-150 Raptor, owners must press “features” on the touchscreen, then select “Trail Turn Assist.” From there, the feature can be turned on or off. The feature will activate if the vehicle is in 4H or 4L, traveling at speeds of less than 12 miles per hour, the rear differential is unlocked, and when the steering wheel is almost fully turned in either direction. Activating any of the aforementioned features will automatically disengage Trail Turn Assist, or it can be manually turned off via the touchscreen. Additionally, one of two indicators will be displayed on the screen in green while the feature is active, depending on which direction the pickup is turning.

While the 2021 F-150 Raptor comes equipped with a host of useful features including Trail Turn Assist, it is not available with Ford’s new BlueCruise advanced driver-assist feature, due to compatibility issues with the off-road-oriented vehicle’s software. Meanwhile, order books for the Ford F-150 Raptor R – which will be powered by Ford’s supercharged 5.2L Predator V8.
