As of this writing, the 2022 Explorer is available at dealers nationwide since the Ford Chicago Assembly plant has been producing the current model since November 2021.
However, the ongoing chip shortage and supply chain constraints have led to some creative de-contenting on the part of automakers including Ford. For instance, FoMoCo has been offering customers the ability to delete some features and take delivery of their vehicles sooner. Some of these features include auto engine start/stop, as well as multicontour seats and second-row climate controls.
Additionally, the 2022 model year has received its own updates including dropping standard four-wheel drive in favor of rear-wheel-drive, the choice of a second-row bench seat or captain’s chairs at no additional cost, a second-row bench seat option on the Timberline model, new seat trim for XLT Sport Appearance Package, and a standard Technology Package for King Ranch and Platinum trims.
