The 2023 Ford Escape is a highly anticipated vehicle, designed to be the perfect getaway vehicle for daily adventures. And it looks like it won’t disappoint in terms of safety, as it has just earned an overall Good rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) after successfully completing updated front overlap crash testing. Out of the 15 small SUVs tested, the Escape was one of only two to receive the IIHS’ top tier “good” rating, which also applies to all Escape SUVs produced after May 2022. This is an impressive feat, as the IIHS’ 2.0 moderate front overlap crash testing now includes measuring impact to rear-seat occupants in addition to front passengers.
In addition to this rating, the 2022 Escape has also been recognized by the IIHS as a Top Safety Pick when equipped with specific headlights. This is a highly coveted award, given to vehicles that demonstrate a commitment to safety and provide drivers with the highest level of crash protection available.

The Escape will also debut Blind Spot Assist, which will alert the driver with a light on the sideview mirror and apply a nudge in the steering system to help caution against an unsafe action in a case where the driver has missed warnings from the Blind Spot Information System. This feature will detect other vehicles and motorcyclists in blind spots, helping to keep drivers safe on the road. And the new Rear Cross Traffic Braking builds upon BLIS with Cross Traffic Alert to detect objects crossing the Escape’s path while in reverse and automatically brake if a cross traffic collision is imminent, such as when backing out of a parking spot or driveway.
