The catalog of available aftermarket Ford Bronco parts and accessories continues to grow exponentially with each passing month, and already includes a Roush air induction system for both Ford’s 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 and 2.7L EcoBoost V6. Now, legendary air filter maker K&N has developed its own drop-in air filter, which is currently available for both of the Bronco’s available powerplants as well.
K&N’s new Ford Bronco drop-in air filter is a direct replacement for the original and reportedly increases both horsepower and torque without the need for a tune, while the filter itself is quite adept at increasing airflow while also keeping dust and debris out of the engine. The nice thing about these filters is that they’re washable, so they don’t need to be replaced when they do get dirty. On top of that, K&N also says that owners can go 50,000 miles (under normal conditions) before the filters need to be cleaned and reoiled.
All of this is important for a vehicle that was built to be driven off-road, as Bronco Nation points out. At the Bronco Off-Roadeo locations, the air filter is by far the most frequently serviced item on the Broncos used on-site and falls into what Ford refers to as a “Severe Duty Schedule” part due to the fact that it’s subjected to some insanely dusty and sandy environments including Moab, Las Vegas, and Texas.
That’s where the K&N filter comes in, however – while it costs $75.99, which is a lot more than a stock replacement – the aftermarket piece pays for itself when used on a vehicle that spends a good bit of time off-road, like the Ford Bronco. As Bronco Nation mentions, Ford recommends changing the air filter every 1,500 miles when used in these types of conditions, so for those that subject their Bronco to the trails on a regular basis, that extra up front cost will save them money in the long run.
