We’ve come across plenty of cool, unique, and downright bizarre Ford trucks in our years of scanning auction sites and for sale ads, and yet, we continue to find pickups that truly surprise us. That’s certainly true of this custom-built 1991 Ford F-250 furniture hauler currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer, a truly one-of-a-kind creation that isn’t anything like what we’re used to seeing on that particular site, which is typically filled with pricey collectible vehicles. Regardless, it’s too cool not to take a closer look at.
The prior owner had the custom cargo box on this 1991 Ford F-250 – which was originally made in 1946 and repurposed here – installed so he could use it to haul furniture for his business, and that’s precisely what it did for many years until he sold it earlier this year. That box was painted to match the Colonial White pickup, while red graphics were also added to advertise the business – Schramm Furniture Inc. of Winner, South Dakota. Today, the truck has plenty of patina but still retains its original appearance, which is pretty cool in our humble opinion.
The large, vintage cargo box undoubtedly makes this F-250 a lot more utilitarian, as it measures 99 inches deep, 80 inches wide, and 49 inches high, with a vinyl cover that can be peeled back for better access or deployed in the case of inclement weather. Otherwise, this pickup is pretty standard fare for the era, wearing basic hub caps and radial tires. The same goes for inside the cabin, where you’ll find a sea of red, a cloth bench seat, rubber floor mats, air conditioning, and an AM/FM radio, but little else.
This is a work truck, after all, and as such, it’s also powered by Ford’s venerable 351 cubic-inch V8 producing 200 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, which is mated to a four-speed E4OD automatic transmission. Overall, it’s a truly cool piece of history, given the fact that this same box was used by the same furniture company for decades on different trucks. Regardless, it’s unclear how much interest collectors will have in it, as this isn’t your ordinary collectible by any means.
