1965 Ford F-100 Is a Nicely Restored Former Air Force Truck

This 1965 Ford F-100 is nice enough on its merits, but the fact that it’s a military vet makes it even cooler.

At first glance, this 1965 Ford F-100 Flareside pickup that’s up for grabs at Bring a Trailer might just look like a regular old, nicely restored vintage pickup. However, this particular truck is a former Air Force veteran with years of service, giving it a cool story for the new owner to tell on pleasant Saturday mornings at the local cars and coffee. But there’s obviously far more to like about this 1965 Ford F-100 other than the fact that it has a pretty interesting history, too.

The truck isn’t currently fitted with its Air Force signage, which is included with the sale, but it looks pretty darn fantastic as is, in our humble opinion. That’s impressive given the fact that the restoration took place back in 2014, but its owner(s) have obviously taken great care of it over those years, as we can clearly see. That job included repairing rusty floors and applying fresh coats of dark blue paint, while all the chrome and the added wooden bed rails and slats provide the perfect complement to all that shiny stuff.

The vintage hauler rides in a set of equally vintage painted 15-inch steel wheels with hub caps, which are wrapped with 225/75 Cornell whitewall tires. Since this truck exudes a mostly original vibe, it also makes sense that stopping power is provided the old fashioned way – with four-wheel drum brakes.

Inside the cabin, we find a mostly original interior with few frills other than a blue vinyl bench, black rubber floor mats, sun visors, a dome light, a glove compartment, and a heater. But there is one cool detail present – a dash plaque that reads “U.S. Property,” with a delivery date of June 1965. Finally, power comes from Ford’s 240 cubic-inch inline-six cylinder powerplant, which was freshly rebuilt just last month and is mated to a three-speed manual transmission.

Overall, this ’65 F-100 is a truly fine pickup that any enthusiast would love to cruise around town on the weekend, attracting attention everywhere it goes. The fact that it once served in the military, well, that’s just an added bonus and a fun story to tell when anyone with a keen eye notices its badging.
