The Ford Mustang Mach-E has racked up its fair share of accolades over the past several months, including a spot as one of the most considered electrified vehicles on Kelley Blue Book’s Brand Watch Study, a KBB Best Resale Value Award, a second-place ranking on J.D. Power’s 2022 U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Ownership Study, being named one of Consumer Reports‘ most satisfying SUVs to own and landing on that organization’s recommended cars list, as well as becoming CR‘ top EV pick of 2022, which made Ford CEO Jim Farley rather proud. Now, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium continues that trend, as it has been named AAA’s best overall car.
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium was the highest rated vehicle in the 2022 edition of the AAA Car Guide, which includes reviews of new vehicles based on 12 criteria, including the number of ADAS safety features present, fuel efficiency, emissions, braking, handling, ride quality, and acceleration. The vehicles are tested, scored, and placed in one of five categories by the Automotive Research Center (ARC) of the Automobile Club of Southern California, a member of the AAA federation of motor clubs.
“The Mustang Mach-E isn’t just a car, it’s a phenomenon,” AAA said. “The Mach-E is a great-looking car – unmistakably a Mustang, but new from the ground up. It’s powerful, quick, and fun to drive. The roomy cabin is quiet; Ford’s full suite of advanced safety features Co-Pilot360, is standard.” On the flip side, AAA did find a few faults with the EV crossover, however.
“The ride is fine on smooth pavement but can be jarring on uneven or potholed streets,” AAA noted. “The braking and acceleration could be smoother at low speeds and in stop-and-go traffic. The tablet on the center console is huge (nearly 16 inches), but some menus are unintuitive and require multiple steps for simple tasks. Finally, the plain interior styling, absent any Mustang cues, doesn’t match the flair of the Mach-E’s sheet metal.”
