The Crossley Family Activity Complex, built only a few short years ago, has become quite the popular spot here in Liberty on Friday nights. As the community has cheered on our Eagles football team to their State appearance. Itās safe to say they had an extremely successful season and used the complex very often, practicing there daily and of course bringing home wins on Friday night. However, it’s not only Eagles football that gets to enjoy the stadium and all of its amenities.
I know that football gets all the hype, but I was genuinely curious. What other school groups get to use the field? I did a little bit of investigating and asked some of my friends. I learned that every day there’s a multitude of other sports that use the stadium. Soccer, Band, and Track and Field, to name a few.Ā
The first person I talked to was my friend Jack Nedau, heās a Junior on the soccer team and is a CAM. Which according to Google stands for Central Attacking Midfielder. The soccer team also had a very successful season. When I was talking to Jack, he couldn’t help but mention his exciting team’s win against Liberty. And trust me I don’t miss any opportunity to highlight Eagles kicking some Blue Jay butt. His team was able to practice on the turf occasionally if it wasnāt being used by another sport and they had all of their home games in the complex. When I asked about his favorite part of home games he told me that he loves to play In the complex. The ball moves much faster on the turf and it makes the game more exciting. The more you know!
The next person I talked to was Lucy Chu, a senior who plays clarinet for our marching band, and WOW did the band have a memorable season! The Band won Grand Champs, 2 Competitions in a row, which Is a first In North history. Not only this but they killed it every Friday night performing the halftime show. Itās clear they aren’t this good by accident, they had a very intense practice schedule. Practicing outside on the field every day at 7am and most days after school. Lucy told me that It was really important for them to be able to practice outside, that way it was easier to memorize their positions. I always enjoy watching the band perform and I’m Incredibly impressed with their skills considering I couldn’t even play the recorder in elementary school.
Lastly, I talked to Ethan Lee, a senior and long-distance track runner. Ethan is a crazy talented runner. In the 20-21 track season, he won the 800 and 1600 at state and was a part of the relay team that won the 4×4 and 4×8 at state. Woah. When I talked to him he emphasized how important it was to be close with the team and to be working for a common goal. He also said how much it helped him and his team to have such a nice facility to use every day.
It’s no secret that my family and I support all Eagle Athletics and activities, but I honestly didn’t know how much the complex was used daily. At any time throughout the week, the stadium is filled with athletes, musicians, cheerleaders, and of course fans. We are proud to have helped create a place that the community can enjoy for many years to come. So next time you want something fun to do, head up to Liberty North and catch a race, watch a soccer game or maybe see the band perform.
